This spaghetti recipe was passed down to me from my mom and grandma. I did change a few things over time. It’s one of those meals that everyone in the household loves and it’s so easy to make! It’s also an overall balanced and healthy meal. The leftovers are great too, which can’t be said for all meals. I don’t order spaghetti at restaurants; I much prefer the spaghetti we make.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds ground beef (I use 85-93%)
- 2 organic bell peppers, diced
- 2 yellow onions, diced (3-4 if they are small)
- About 4 cloves of garlic
- 1 28oz can of organic crushed tomatoes
- 2 14.5oz cans of organic petite diced tomatoes
- 1 15oz can of organic tomato sauce
- 2 16oz bags of organic spaghetti noodles
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- Garlic powder, to taste
- Onion powder, to taste
- Italian seasoning, to taste
- Cayenne powder, to taste
Directions
- Boil and drain your spaghetti noodles. Set these aside; refrigerate if necessary.
- Start by dicing your bell peppers and onions.
- Brown your ground beef on medium to medium-high heat. Season the ground beef a little bit while it’s cooking.
- Add the diced bell peppers and onions to the ground beef once it’s almost done cooking but not completely done.
- Once the onions are translucent, add your 4 garlic cloves. Give it a few minutes longer of cooking.
- Add in the crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes, and tomato sauce (I do not drain the diced tomatoes).
- Keep the heat on medium until you notice the spaghetti sauce bubbling a little bit then reduce the heat to low until it stops bubbling but the heat is maintained.
- Add in all of your seasonings, to taste. Then the spaghetti is ready! Enjoy!

Yield
This recipe is enough for a family of 4 with enough leftover for 1-2 days. I always make extra so that we have leftovers. If you run out of sauce but still have some noodles, you can make homemade lo mein noodles.
Notes & Tips
My mom always uses Creole seasoning as well. I don’t but her spaghetti is still really good so if you’re into more spice then this may be something you consider adding.
I use organic bell peppers and tomato products as they are on the Dirty Dozen list. I also use organic spaghetti noodles as I find they are better quality and I like that they are not enriched or fortified. You can find these in your local natural grocery store or online. I buy mine on Amazon when they don’t have them in-store or when they are more expensive in-store.
